Twenty-Five Years on and Going From Strength to Strength
Twenty-Five years ago, the same year that Sir Tim Berners-Lee first made the internet public, the Miller family set up Millerson Estate Agents with one office in Tavistock. Heather and Geofrey Miller, along with their son, Jeremy, would travel daily from their home in Truro to man the office. Long hours and long distances followed, indeed Jeremy’s car covered so many miles that it could have reached the moon and back! They invested in the height of current technology at the time; a typewriter with the amazing facility to erase, and were one of the first agents to introduce full colour details. The effort paid off as they are now celebrating twenty-five years of trading and their business has gone from strength to strength. They now have twelve offices and deal not only with residential sales but also lettings and commercial properties.
However, the association of the Miller family with property goes a lot further back than 25 years. Indeed it goes back another generation to Geofrey’s father, R.G.Miller, who set up his first estate agency in 1932. This was where Geofrey cut his teeth and started on the road to property expertise and success, first with Miller & Co, which was sold away from the family to Hambro in 1990, and now with Millerson.
Estate agency has changed dramatically over the last 25 years and Millerson has always been quick to move with the times. “The arrival of the internet has led to enormous changes in the way that people choose property to buy or let. At Millerson we embrace the convenience of the cyber world while holding true to our core value of offering all of our clients outstanding and personal service. We are not only on-line but also on the High Street and that is one of the things that sets us apart from some other agents,” said Jeremy Miller who is now in charge of day to day operations.
Millerson now has over 90 employees. Included in their number are two members of staff who first worked with the family over 30 years ago, Penny Churcher who works in the Falmouth office and Pat Chapman, Geofrey’s PA. Pat has been an integral member of the head office team for many years, “The Millers are a very special family to work with, professional and dedicated but with a uniquely warm sense of humour. Every day is different and life at Millerson is certainly never dull.”
Heather and Geofrey Miller still play active roles in the business. “Dealing with property is in my blood and I am just as passionate about Millerson today as I was 25 years ago,” said Geofrey. “We have built up an excellent team and have some innovative ideas for the future. I am sure that the next 25 years will be even more exciting than the last.”
